Blog Goals, Sideblogs & Microblogging

Welcome to MakingTheMogul.com. If you're new here, please make sure to subscribe to my RSS feed and join me on Twitter.

As you are well aware, MakingTheMogul.com focuses on the business side of the music business; getting into the business, issues surrounding it, lessons learned, etc - and it’s offered through my personal perspective as I continue in my journey.

Thing is, I don’t update as much as I should.

I acknowledge that.

I’ve actually been speaking to a few fellow bloggers recently about that and have requested their own personal tips and suggestions on updating regularly. It’s not easy when you have a 24/7 work schedule. A REAL 24/7 work schedule, not a pretend schedule that’s primarily spent doing nothing (read: sh*t talkers).

Anyhow, I have a new goal I want to share with you: next week (October 13th -17th), I am committed to posting at least one new post per day. And yes, I said “at least”, so I may post more than once a day, but I might not. One post per day seems like a good goal for me. (I’m going to attempt to post often this week as well)

This might not seem like a big deal to some, but remember that this isn’t a news or gossip blog, so I don’t have to update daily. (I’m going to get a few phone calls and messages about that last comment, guaranteed)

I admit, I take advantage of that leniency though. I figure I’ll treat this like an exercise or diet plan -let others know about my plan and then stick to it so that I don’t break my word.

So there; I told you.

On that note, there’s certain things that I feel like sharing online, but they don’t really fit with the theme of MakingTheMogul. For that reason, I also have a “sidebar” blog, called moe’s art, where I just post up random things I find funny or post-worthy.

And as always, you can find me on Twitter.

I Stay Buying CDs

Don’t get me wrong, I support and purchase digital downloads from iTunes, etc, but as a personal preference, I still buy CDs.

Even though I mostly listen to music on my computer, iPod and Blackberry, I still prefer having a physical disc to sync the music from and to keep on my shelves. Maybe I’m a collector, maybe I’m nostalgic, but it’s what I prefer.

I purchase music all the time, but today 2 albums dropped that I’ve actually been looking forward to for a while:

T.I - “Paper Trail”
Dru - “The One”

New Music CDs: T.I - Paper Trail, Dru - The One

By the way, if you’re an R&B cat like me and you’re not familiar with Dru, you need to be. He was formerly with the group, In Essence, which broke into the scene with their song, “You Will Never Find Another” back in 1998 with Funkmaster Flex.

Check out some of his videos below and make sure to go cop his new record.

I SEE YOU DRU!

So now, let me ask you guys; what’s the last music (single or album/digital or physical) that you purchased?

The Faces Of Hip-Hop 2.0?

Who's Got Next In Hip-Hop? Asher Roth, Charles Hamilton & Mickey Factz

The internet and the streets alike have been buzzing for months about 3 artists: Asher Roth, Charles Hamilton & Mickey Factz. Could they be the new faces of Hip-Hop?

What are your thoughts?

Jimmy Iovine Discusses The Future Of The Music Business

Here’s an interesting video I found of Jimmy Iovine discussing his views on today’s music industry and his vision on the direction it’s taking. (Note: The video is about a year old)

He offers advice for new artists as well as talking about possible distribution models, what makes a great producer and the future of Interscope and the traditional record label.

Dancing All Over The World

I just saw this video and had to share it with you guys.

I’m surprised I’ve never seen in it before though, since it’s apparently a very popular viral video.

No matter what kind of mood you’re in; you will definitely laugh and smile watching it.

This video took Matt Harding to 42 countries in 14 months and the best part about it all - it was all paid for by Stride Gum. How awesome is that?

[EDIT: You have to wait until about 1 minute into the video to understand why this is such a great and hilarious video.]
